BOOK : Tourism and Heritage

Edité en 2008 (Hanoï)

Presentation of the editor

Traditional vector of study and knowledge, heritage has become through tourism activities, a key player in economic development in developed countries, as in emerging countries. This doesn't come without any consequences.

The book - whose previous edition dated from 2005 - describes the stakeholders, the modalities of the tourist wealth management, attendance and public sites and made an overview of this booming economy.

Now estimated share of cultural tourism to a little over 15% of the overall tourism activity against 5% in the 1980s in France and especially in Paris, it is much higher. It is characterized by numerous variations (museums, castles, gardens but also historical, cultural tours, festivals ...).

Between quest for ever greater attendance quota and the number of visitors to local impact, the economic development is not without consequences on cultural property management procedures. Different approaches are discussed and illustrated by numerous French and foreign examples.

The book is intended for heritage enthusiasts, professionals (cultural institutions, local authorities, tourism operators ...) and students who wish to deepen their knowledge and their know-how in this field.

Mr. Valéry Patin has a doctorate in sociology, he is expert consultant to the World Bank and the Unesco. He was associate professor at the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne until 2011.
